Surguja: Two Chhattisgarh panchayats, Nagam in Surguja district and Sankara in Dhamtari district have won the National Panchayat Award. This is a massive accomplishment for the two villages because they beat off 2.5 million other gram panchayats from around the country to earn the honor.

The award ceremony took place on National Panchayati Raj Day, observed on April 24th each year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the occasion and commended and congratulated the two panchayats on their achievement.

Nagam and Sankara have been honored for their outstanding contributions to water conservation, sanitation, education, and healthcare. They have also been recognized for their efforts to encourage villagers to pursue self-employment and entrepreneurship.

The two panchayats have conducted several innovative projects to better the lives of their citizens. Nagam, for example, has established a community radio station to inform locals about government policies and programs. In contrast, Sankara has found a communal kitchen to serve free meals to the underprivileged and needy.

The National Panchayat Award is a prominent award that recognizes gram panchayats’ efforts to promote grassroots democracy and rural development. Every year, the award is granted to panchayats that have substantially contributed to social justice, economic development, and environmental sustainability. Nagam and Sankara’s acknowledgment emphasizes the necessity of empowering rural populations and supporting sustainable development in India.
