Raipur: Chhattisgarh has been declared the cleanliest state of the nation under the Swachh Survekshan garbage free city ranking . As many as 61 cities will be awarded from the state for their excellent performance.
On November 20, 2021, the state will be honored at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. President Ramnath Kovind will conferr an award in the category of cleanest states of India in the Swachh Amrit Mahotsav organized under the Amrit Mahotsav of Azadi. It is noteworthy that the state has been clinching the cleanliest state award consecutively since 2019.
On behalf of the centre, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has invited CM Bhupesh Baghel and Urban Administration Minister Dr. Shivkumar Dahria to receive the award.
Swachh Sarvekshan is organized every year among all the cities and states of the country by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India. Under this survey, urban cleanliness is assessed under various parameters. Along with assessing door-to-door garbage collection, scientific disposal of waste, open defecation free city, garbage free city etc. through third party, the feedback of citizens is also included in survey. On the scores alloted centre releases the ranking of states and cities, out of which the best performing states and cities are rewarded.
In the 2020, Chattisgarh was adjudged as country’s first (open defecation free) ODF++ state under urban category while 62 villages in the rural areas of the state were ranked second in ODF plus category under Swachh Bharat Mission.
While in the category of top 25 Urban Local Bodies Ambikapur ranked fourth, while in other districts including Rajnandgaon, Bilaspur and Raigarh bagged 18th, 19th and 21st position respectively.
The Baghel led garnered this achievment under the principles of Narva, Garwa, Ghurva and Bari, more than 9000 Swachhata Didis collect 1600 tonnes of wet and dry waste from house and dispose scientifically.
