Raipur: Normal life came to a grinding halt in the city on Tuesday as a complete shutdown was enforced across 10 distrcits of Chhattisgarh for this week to stem the spread of COVID-19 cases. On Tuesday Morning, the team of police force were seen posted at all the check-points in the Chhattisgarh’s Capital Raipur – the worst hit from the pandemic.
People were directed to show I-cards and state the purpose of leaving the house. Apart from the most essential services, it is being said to show the card to all the people.
Traffic Superintendent of Police, M.R. Mandavi said that action will be taken by the team for those who are going to roam unnecessarily. If such people leave, then necessary and statutory action will be imposed on them. However, The three examinations which will be held during lockdown, the candidates just have to carry their admit card to go through without any further inspection. We appeal to the people that stay at home, do not leave needlessly,” added Traffic SP.
Essential services like medicine shops and health establishments remained open as these were kept out of the purview of the complete shutdown.
All public transport, government and private offices, banks and other commercial establishments, barring those dealing with essential services, were closed due to the lockdown. Petrol pumps are also allowed to remain closed during the lockdown days.
Security has been tightened to enforce the lockdown and police personnel were seen patrolling major traffic intersections in Raipur District.
Chhattisgarh’s COVID-19 caseload mounted to 88,181 on Monday with the a single day spike of 1,998 infections, the state’s health department said.
