Raipur– Recently Chhattisgarh has started the process of implementing metering through installing prepaid electricity meters and the consumer has showed lots of curiosity in the new system. Issues addressed are how to replenish the smart metres in Chhattisgarh, and if there is a problem, is the connection terminated instantly. To give some clarifications about these concerns, the Managing Director of the electricity company of Kanwar is Bheem Singh Kanwar.

Bheem Singh Kanwar said it is important for consumers to appreciate the impact of the prepaid meter system. If the consumer exhaust the prepaid account and the balance drop to zero then the electricity connection will be cut for that day between 10 am and 2 pm without any holiday.

To expand on this Kanwar said that the Electricity Regulatory Commission has put out a notification outlining what the circumstances are under which a prepaid meter connection will be disconnected because the card has not been recharged. If the customer has exhausted his/her credit on the prepaid meter and the meter reads zero, the connection will not be disconnected at non-office hours, 5. 30 PM to 10 AM of the following day, or any other period determined to be a holiday.

To ensure that the consumer is not inconveniced greatly, the disconnection will be done after the close of business on the next working day within 10 in the morning to 2 in the afternoon. Notably, disconnection because the account is in a zero balance will not be deemed a permanent or real disconnection.

For this reason, consumers of Chhattisgarh require information on such procedures in order to escape frequent power outages. Refuelling of prepaid meters can often be done from the online platforms offered by the electricity supplying company so that the electricity supply does not cease. With the introduction of prepaid meters, there are issues of better management and control of the usage of electricity but at the same time, the consumer has to change his/her attitude to conducting his/her account balance actively.

Through these guidelines and processes, the consumers will be in a better position to deal with the process of moving to prepaid meters so that there be a constant and smooth supply of electricity and no buyer be inconvenienced by the issues that come with disconnections. The electricity company on the surface of converting into this new system of operation is ready and willing to ensure that the consumers are offered all the support and information they need in order to handle and manage all the difficulties which come with this conversion.
