Chhattisgarh: Preparations for Republic Day Celebration on Full Swing; CM’s Delight over Folk Instruments

Amidst the full-swing preparations for the upcoming Republic Day celebrations in Chhattisgarh, the state capital Raipur witnesses a tableau which depicts its folk musical instruments. The tableau is all set to roll on the Rajpath of Raipur during the Republic Day celebrations on Tuesday (January 26). 

The officials of the Public Relations Department of Chhattisgarh, joining hands with a team of artisans have created the tableau with great effort. Along with the folk instruments, dancers are going to accompany by performing Mandri dance, which is the folk-dance form of the state. Notably, the National Defense Ministry has already done with showcasing the tableau to the national media.

Objects of regular use, such as bamboo cane, bow, earthen pots have been recycled to form the front side of the tableau, which has been shaped like a gigantic model of a tribal woman playing tribal musical instrument ‘Dhankul’. It is also noteworthy that Dhankul is played among tribal communities in Bastar at some particular rituals during multiple occasions, including ‘Laxmi-jagaar’ or ‘Teeja-jagaar’.

The middle part of the tableau has been designed as a couple of musical instruments named ‘Todi’ and ‘Tuhri’, which are played by blowing air inside during holy occasions, whilst the rear part of the tableau contains a male performing ‘Gaur’ dance along with the drum. A number of various other instruments, mostly percussion instruments, are played on both sides of the tableau, including copdodka, agalgoja, dev nagada, maandar, nagada, daahak, sarangi, dafadaa, etc.
