Raipur: It has been announced that the Monsoon Session of the Chhattisgarh Assembly is to begin soon. Assembly Speaker Dr Raman Singh also disclosed that Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai had endorsed the date suggested by the Parliamentary Affairs minister for the session. The Monsoon Session is, however scheduled to begin on July 22 and end on July 31st.
This announcement is significant for the state, as it stands as Chhattisgarh attributed legislative periods of the discourse on various policies and issues. The session will, therefore, act as the forum through which the government outlines its Programme of Work, introduces the bills it intends to pass as laws, and responds to issues for consideration by the opposition and the public.
Possible topics to be covered in the course of this session include economic policies to be implemented, social-economic welfare policies, and developmental plans. The session will, therefore be important for the passage of new bills and or amendments to existing ones that will define the future of the state. The next important role of the legislature will be prioritized: the legislators will be able to interrogate government officials, introduce new policies and initiatives, and act as the voices of the electorates.
The decision to hold the session from July, 22-31 shows the intent of the government in doing legislative business and in keeping the process of democracy afloat. ‘It also helps set a calendar to assist the members of the assembly in their preparation for the issues for debate and contribution.
The session will be steered by Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, who will spearhead it, be part of the leading debaters, and ensure that the session is kept on efficiently. They will be in the central stage of answering the queries and concerns from the opposition on the actions of the government, hence giving accountability.
