Raipur: The Chhattisgarh government is serious about education and will start implementing the NEP 2020 in July this year. The Higher Education Department Secretary R. Prasanna, in a press conference, unveiled that the current annual examination system will soon be replaced by a semester norm. Alterations have also been made to the syllabus and also the policy for the conducting of guest lectures. It evidences itself to be a new policy that introduces significant changes in the Chhattisgarh Higher Education Department. In the course of discussion on some of the requisites of the policy, the Secretary, Prasanna, noted that the policy also offers provisions for constant assessment, which would complement the intellectual efficacy as well as contribute to the mental strength of the students. Unlike the usual academic calendar, where examinations dominate the later part of the academic year, semester-based learning is intended to lessen the pressure from examinations for the students.

It is a multifaceted policy where students get the privilege to dedicate their time to subjects offered by different faculties. It will involve the Indian knowledge system and additional activities outside the class curriculum. Information technology utilization is given priority as a tool that supports strategic objectives. The proposed 3 or 4-year MUD undergraduate programs in Chhattisgarh shall be credit-accumulation programs under CBCS. As for the 3 or 4-year undergraduate programs, students are allowed to finish within the maximum limit of 7 years.

Particularly, the “multiple entry and exit” means that if a student enrolled in such a program wants to stop and get a certificate after one year, he/she will be provided with the certificate in the chosen faculty. If they take the course for two years and drop out, they will be certified to have a diploma. Option of Stopping Education: Students, thus, can choose to stop education after the third year of study to receive a bachelor’s degree. There are provisions to study up to the fourth year and to acquire an “Honors/Honors with Research” degree for those students who want to achieve proficiency in a chosen subject or develop a research focus.

A condition that is likely to come as a result of the implementation is that a semester system is perceived to enhance learning to be continuous and not as stressful as in the past. The assessment will also be carried out continuously. This will be a better form of checking on the progress of the students since it has been observed that most students get pressured by end-term exams.
