Raipur: In view of the incident in Jama Masjid last year, Chhattisgarh High Court issued an order. Hearing a petition filed in the case, Justice N K Vyas agreed to the arguments of the petitioner’s advocate Ishaan Verma. The court ordered the petitioner to enter the mosque and offer prayers.
A criminal case was filed against the assailants who thrashed Mohammad Yusuf on June 23. 2020. Yusuf, a resident of Durg, is a regular visitor of the Jama Masjid. On 23 June 2020, citing the huge mob at the mosque he advised the visitors to follow COVID norms. Some people were taken aback by his advice and attacked him, injuring him and throwing him out of the mosque.
On failure of action by the police officials, Yusuf then approached the state HC for justice and filed a petition. The petition was presented by the victim’s advocate who asserted that Article 25 of the Constitution was being violated. As per Article 25, every person has a constitutional right to pray at his religious place.
Chattisgarh had reported a drastically rising tally during the second wave. Several deaths and post-COVID complications were reported across several districts.
