Raipur: Chhattisgarh Cabinet Sub-Committee on Wednesday took a major decision in a meeting on paddy procurement for the upcoming season. Food Minister Amarjeet Bhagat in a statement stated to procure 110 metric tonnes in the year 2022- 23. For the proposed scheme, around 5 lakhs gunny bags will be required, officials said citing the shortage of gunny bags the administration faced this year while procuring paddy.

In the meeting chaired by Food Minister, Amarjeet Bhagat discussion on the rice deposition in the Central pool was also done. The ministry discussed all the parameters of the paddy purchase scheme in the presence of transport minister Mohammad Akbar and Agriculture Minister Ravindra Chaubey.

Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh Government earlier decided to promote rural livelihoods with organic farming. It also launched Gordhan Nyay Scheme in the year 2020 for the betterment and upliftment of farmers. Earlier this year, in May 2022 Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel virtually disbursed 1720.11 Crores to farmers for the cultivation of major Kharif and horticulture crops in the state.
