Chhattisgarh Government Approaches Supreme court over BJP Leaders’ “Toolkit” Controversy

Raipur: The Chhattisgarh government moved to the Supreme court against the HC orders that stay put orders in the investigation in an FIR registered against senior BJP leader and former chief minister Raman Singh and the party’s spokesperson Sambit Patra for their tweets in the alleged fake toolkit case.

On June 11, the Chhattisgarh High Court had passed two parallel interim reliefs in the same FIR filed against Raman Singh and Sambit Patra while noting that the claims in the FIR reflected that “by the tweets, Congressmen are aggravated which clearly indicates that no public peace or tranquillity being adversely affected and it is purely political rivalry between two political parties”. 

Advocate Sumeer Sodhi representing the state government has filed two separate appeals in the top court- against the relief granted to Dr Raman Singh and Sambit Patra. The appeal read- the high court on 11 June not only challenged the order but erroneously granted an interim relief sought by the accused Dr.Raman Singh.

The state government has further said that the high court stumbled in exercising such powers and staying the entire investigation at a nascent stage especially when ex-facie offence of forgery is made out and is writ large.
