Raipur: For the first time in Chhattisgarh, the pension will now be given to the people of third gender as the state government has invited applications. Prior to this historic announcement, pension was being given to the abandoned, disabled, elderly, destitute, and widows. The Social Welfare Department of Chhattisgarh has asked the third gender to apply online on the website of the department.
“The work of taking applications for pension to third gender has started Soon the pension amount will be transferred to the account after completing the process”, said Ramesh Kumar Sharma, the Director of Social Welfare Department.
The department has also emphasized on creating awareness about the scheme. So far, the department has identified 3,058 third-gender candidates and out of these, identity certificates have been issued to 1,229. The working certificates of 1,829 is still in progress. Since March 1, 2023, 600 third genders have submitted their application and after examining these applications, a monthly pension of Rs. 350 will be deposited in their specific accounts. Most of these applications are filed from Raipur district.
