Raipur: With the upcoming assembly elections in Chhattisgarh, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) led by Mayawati has unveiled its list of candidates. A senior party official made this announcement.
Initially, they have confirmed candidates for nine assembly constituencies. Interestingly the party has decided to support two of its MLAs; Keshav Prasad Chandra from Jaijaipur and Indu Banjare from Pamgarh.
In anticipation of the assembly polls in Chhattisgarh, where the Congress’s currently in power, BSP has strategically announced its candidates well ahead of the election schedule that is yet to be released.
The list was publicly revealed on Tuesday. Has received endorsement from Mayawati, the BSP president and former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. Hemant Poyam, the party’s state leader, shared with PTI that this list emphasizes diversity and includes an MLA.
In addition to those mentioned above, other names on the list include Dauram Ratnakar for the Masturi seat (reserved for SC candidates), Omprakash Bachpayee for Nawagarh (another SC reserved seat), Radheshyam Suryavanshi for Janjgir Champa constituency Dr. Vinod Sharma for Akaltara constituency Shayam Tandan for Bilaigarh ( an SC reserved seat) Ramkumar Suryavanshi for Beltara constituency and Anand Tigga, for Samri seat (reserved for Tribe candidates).
In the state assembly elections of 2018, the BSP joined hands with the Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (J) and the Communist Party of India (CPI). This alliance resulted in wins, for the BSP in Jaijaipur and Pamgarh receiving a total of 4.27% of the votes. At the time, their coalition partner, JCC (J), managed to secure victories in five constituencies gaining support from 7.6% of voters.
