Bilaspur: Malaria and diarrhea are current health problems within the district, greatly impacting the residents of the particular area. As a result of this social health crisis, the authorities have been pressured to apprehend “quacks” – unqualified doctors. In a recent crackdown, the forty-five clinics run by these unauthorized medical practitioners were closed across the regions.
Of these, 17 clinics were closed in Bilha, 12 in Kota, and 8 each in Takhatpur and Bilaspur. Two people were found offering health services within their residential premises under the pretext of managing business shops; two patients were receiving treatment when the bust was affected.
Several Clinics Closed in Chhattisgarh
The crackdown was conducted following an unfortunate event that occurred in the Kota region in Chhattisgarh, where a malaria patient passed on after receiving an unqualified doctor. After this, District Collector Avnish Sharan directed all Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) to raid these clinics and launch actions against the operations. One major action was conducted in late last night in the Kota tehsil that signified efforts against the unauthorized clinics.
In Peepertrai village, an Ayurveda and Unani medicine store run by Ripon Mandal at Bengali Dawakhana was found to contain allopathic medicines and injections, and six months ago, Mandal was served with similar action by a drug inspector. Further, two doctors in Masturi were discovered to be running a hospital from their stores, and their clinics in Masturi and Ved Parsada were sealed.
Authorities Intensify Efforts
Subsequent raids conducted in Bilaspur, Chantidih, found that allopathic medicines and injections were being stocked by a clinic owned by Shiv Kumar Dhuri. Still, no proper documents were produced for the same, and the clinic has been shut down. Similar measures were adopted regarding Palash Kumar Rai’s clinic at Sendri, Prasanjit Malik at Semartal, Darsaram Sahu at Semra, and another clinic owned by Bengalis at Devrikhurd. In Sarkanda Imlimatha, one more unlawful clinic was also closed.
