Raipur: As many as 800 contract-based doctors employed in Chhattisgarh Government hospital are planning for a ‘mass resignation” over the reduction or partial payment of salaries over the past few months.

 The COVID-19 frontline workers, who are MBBS graduates, joined the government hospitals to support the fight against the pandemic.

Nearly 800 doctors have reported ceasing their services at the COVID establishments. The Chhattisgarh government had raised their pay scale from Rs 55,000 to 75,000 after several doctors protested a few months ago. 

Dr Pushpendra, employed for the past few months said,” due to our agitation, we were being paid Rs 75,000. But now we are informed that our payment will be deducted.” 

Several doctors across the country have stood up front to serve the Indian health fraternity since the initiation of the outbreak. 

2 months ago, a similar strike was witnessed at Dr Ambedkar Hospital, Raipur where doctor’s complaint of faulty PPE Kits and improper facilities for the COVID ward at the hospital. 

In the meanwhile, On Friday, 545 people were screened in Raipur market after Raipur Collector Dr S. Bharathidasan ordered establishment of COVID screening centres.

The state health bulletin reported 9,33,848 COVID cases since the initiation of the pandemic. Overall, 62,492 active cases have been recorded. The state health administration immunized  1,65,53,027 citizens under the national immunization drive.
