Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has expressed his support for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s accusations against the Adani Group. He believes that the conglomerate is purchasing coal at higher prices than the market rate, which in turn leads to a rise in electricity prices across the country.
Baghel has raised concerns about the increasing involvement of the Adani Group in public infrastructure projects. He questions why sectors such as mines, airports and railways are being consistently awarded to this conglomerate. Like Rahul Gandhi, he emphasises that if electricity bills have seen a spike, it is partly due to Adani’s procurement of coal.
During a press conference, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Adani Group had been involved in another irregularity of Rs 12,000 crore on top of their previous alleged wrongdoings. This brings their corruption figure to Rs 32,000 crore. The accusation revolves around over-invoicing coal imports, resulting in electricity prices that ultimately affect the people.
Rahul Gandhi further asserts that these activities by the Adani Group amount to the misappropriation of funds and put an added burden on citizens’ pockets. He expresses concerns about the lack of actions and investigations taken within India regarding these allegations while other countries are actively pursuing inquiries raising questions about accountability.
In their response, the Adani Group released a statement on October 9 describing the allegations as a part of a campaign led by individuals with agendas disguised as concern for the public well-being.
