Chhattisgarh: After being delayed by a year, the Tokyo Olympics 32 edition is all set to commence from next week. The opening ceremony of the game would be held on 23 July at the National stadium in Tokyo.
Sources on Sunday reported that CM of Chhattisgarh Bhupesh Baghel and General Secretary of Chhattisgarh Olympic Association (COA) GuruCharan Singh Hora have been invited to Olympics village to solicit the event as special guests.
It is reported that, on the directions of the CM, the General secretary of COA would depart to Delhi today, following which he would proceed to Tokyo, Japan to attend the opening ceremony. However, no official information has yet been disclosed on CMs travel to Tokyo. This is for the first time in the history that a member of the Chhattisgarh state administration has been invited for the Olympics.
The first batch of Tokyo Olympics bound athletes departed on 17 July from the Indira Gandhi International Airport Delhi. Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on Saturday gave a formal see-off to India’s first batch. Thakur was accompanied by Minister of State for Sports, Nisith Pramanik, Sports Authority of India Director General Sandip Pradhan and Indian Olympic Association (IOA) officials, including President Narinder Batra and Secretary General Rajeev Mehta.
A contingent of 88 members, which includes 54 athletes besides support staff and IOA representatives, departed for the Japanese capital on Saturday night. Athletes from eight disciplines including archery, badminton, table tennis, hockey, judo, gymnastics, swimming and weightlifting would represent the nation in the International multi-sport event.
