Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister, Bhupesh Baghel made an announcement on Saturday regarding an increase in the stipends for junior doctors in the state. This decision highlights the government’s dedication to supporting professionals and improving their well being. As a result of this decision there have been changes to the stipend structure.

For example MBBS students will now receive a stipend of Rs 15,900, which’s a considerable increase from the previous amount of Rs 12,600. Similarly first year postgraduate (PG) students can expect a boost in their stipend, which will now be Rs 67,500 instead of the previous Rs 53,550.

Moreover second year PG students will see their stipend rise to Rs 71,450 from the amount of Rs 56,700. Meanwhile third year PG students are set to receive a stipend of Rs 74,600 compared to the amount of Rs 59,220. This announcement brings relief to doctors who have been advocating for an increase in their stipends for the past three years and have occasionally resorted to strikes to emphasise their demands.

While there is appreciation for the stipend increment among professionals, some suggest that the government could also consider revising salaries, for those who fulfil rural service obligations after completing their studies. Dr. Prem Chaudhary, who previously served as the president of the Junior Doctors Association (JUDA) highlighted the need for an approach in resolving issues related to doctors remuneration.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel expressed his contentment with the choice to increase allowances for doctors demonstrating the government’s commitment to backing the healthcare community.
