Raipur: Amid sharp rise in Coronavirus cases in Chhattisgarh, the Monsoon Session of the Chhattisgarh Assembly commenced from today at 11 am with all precautions taken to protect the members and staff from the virus.

On Tuesday, Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly, on Tuesday paid  tributes to the state’s first chief minister Ajit Jogi, remembering him as a visionary and spirited politician, who proved his political and administrative skills while working for the newly formed state’s development and welfare of its people.

Moreover, a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee under the chairmanship of the Speaker Dr Charan Das Mahant was held in the committee room of the Assembly here this morning. The members of the Committee included Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Leader of Opposition Dharamlal Kaushik and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ravindra Chaubey among others.There was a consultation regarding the action to be taken in the 4-day session.

Notably, Baghel along with his other cabinet ministers paid tribute to 17 security personnel of District Reserve Guards (DRG) and Special Task Force (STF), who lost their lives in the encounter with Naxals in Sukma and also to the corona warriors.

In the wake of Covid19, this time the monsoon meeting has been planned only for four days and will finish up on August 28, according to the official notification. During the session scheduled on August 25, 26, 27 and 28 (four days), Question Hour as well as financial and other government work will be conducted.

Earlier, it was reported that the seating arrangements for members of the assembly have been altered to comply with COVID-19 safety protocols.

“Glass partitions have been erected to separate the seats of MLAs to minimise contact between two lawmakers while they attend the proceedings of the house”, an assembly official said.
