RAIPUR: The first day of the Winter session of the CG Assembly was adjourned amidst uproar over the delay in the approval of the two bills related to quotas in education and jobs.
The Congress accused the BJP-appointed Governor of having ‘double standards” and an “anti-reservation agenda”, the din prompted Speaker Charandas Mahant to adjourn the House two times for brief periods. The BJP said there was a “constitutional breakdown” in the state as the ruling party was trying to threaten the governor on the issue, in response to which the Congress chief and legislator Mohan Markam claimed the delay was deliberate as the two bills were passed in the House on December 3.
As the house was adjourned today, 11 BJP members were also suspended for trooping into the Well of the House.
The winter session of the Assembly resumed on Monday for five days after a month-long break. A two-day special session was held on December 2 and 3, which was then adjourned till January 1.
