Chhattisgarh: In a virtual interaction with the Union Energy Minister, Rajkumar Singh, State CM Baghel announced to implement the Government’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme for Electricity.

Under this scheme, the state consumers except agriculture consumers would receive smart meters. As per the documentation by the state electricity department the state has 59 lakh electricity consumers.  Out of these 5.50 lakh consumers are of agriculture sector. The Central Government has sanctioned a sum of Rs 9600 and has instructed all states to furnish their approval for the implementation of the scheme. As per the notice issued, December 31, 2021 is decided as the final date for submission of the approval.  After the implementation of the new scheme, the consumer would not have to pay electricity bill, instead would receive electricity in prepaid payment module.

Sources report that project would see participation of Private companies.  The meeting was attended by heads of electricity department from Bihar, Gujarat, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa and Daman and Diu.
