Chhattisgarh Announces Black Fungus Treatment Under Ayushman Bharat and Khurchand Baghel Scheme

Raipur: Rare until recently, Mucormycosis has aggravated the agony of India’s already crippled health care system. The COVID-triggered infection is seen rising dramatically amongst immunocompromised patients who contracted the novel virus. 

The Chhattisgarh government declares to provide treatment under the Ayushman Bharat and Khurchand Baghel schemes.

 The state health bulletin reported 90 cases of Mucormycosis among people who recovered or are still recovering from COVID-19. A drastic increase in post-COVID infections is reported from the state. Out of the 90 infected, 71 patients are being treated at AIIMS and 4 in Mekahara. 3 to 4 patients are being operated on a daily basis to excise the infected organ. So far, 17 patients have undergone eye, nose, ears, jaw surgeries.

Citing the scheme, the state Health Minister TS Singh Deo, said,” Black Fungus patients will be provided free treatment at Government Hospitals. However, the procurement of drugs is still being discussed.” “Discussion for free supply of Black Fungus drugs is still on; will issue the notification soon,” he further said.
