Chhattisgarh: The Police on Monday raided the residence of Mungeli Municipality President, Santulal Sonkar, prime accused in a scam related to the drain-street paving work. A team headed by Sub-Divisional Officer Police is regressively interrogating the accused.
Santulal Sonkar is accused of granting Rs 13 lakhs for drain-street paving work when the same has not been performed. On the orders of the Mungeli Collector, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Mungeli has initiated a probe in the matter.
Meanwhile, another incident of corruption has surfaced in Pathriya Panchayat. A corruption in purchase of furniture materials worth Rs 1.5 crores was reported by the counselor to the collector. Further, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of the region has commenced an investigation in the matter on the orders of the Collector.
Sources reveal that all these furniture materials were purchased to be delivered in schools. However, the Counselor has reported that the tables and chairs received at the schools are of poor quality. The products are being overvalued.
After the matter was reported to the Collector, new materials were purchased at higher cost. This is not the first case of corruption in the Mungeli region Municipality. With this, it is true that the development works lie only on papers and not in reality.
