Raipur: Chhattisgarh CM launched the State special Gamcha at his office residence on Thursday. The Baghel administration has categorized this ‘Gamcha’ as the re-formed identity of the state’s art and culture.
These traditional shawls have been weaved by local weavers and craftsmen using Tussar Silk and Cotton. Imprinted with the state national bird, national animal, Gaur crown of Bastar and folk dance, this ‘gamcha’ adds pride to the State Handloom Association. Furthermore, the depiction of farmers ploughing paddy has attributed to the state’s title as a Paddy Bowl. The Tussar Silk used for the gamcha has been woven by weavers of Seoni Champa while the craftswomen from Sarguja engraved designs on them.
The State Culture Minister Amarjit Bhagat has announced to provide 95 per cent of the sale to the weavers and craftsmen apart from the remuneration they would be paid. Accordingly, the craftsmen would be paid Rs 700 for painting while the weavers are allocated Rs 120 per piece.
The launch event was attended by Tourism Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu, Parliamentary Secretary Chandradev Rai, Chhattisgarh State Home Construction Board President Kuldeep Juneja, Culture Department Secretary Anbalgan P along with CM Baghel and State Culture Minister.
