RAIPUR: In order to provide empowerment and ensure equal opportunities to disabled people in the state, the Baghel govt has increased the reservation to 7 per cent in contrast to 4 per cent provided by the centre.

Provision has been made for reservation in the recruitment and promotion of direct posts from class I to class IV in various departments. The eligible candidate should have 40 per cent disability. The placement will be subjected to the presentation of the disabled certificate officials said. Candidates will be employed through direct recruitment in Mandal Commissions under all departments of the state government.

As per reports, Differently abled people constitute 6% of the population of Chhattisgarh.

The Chhattisgarh Cabinet approved an amendment to the State Panchayati Raj Act, 1993, which makes mandatory the presence of a person with disability in all panchayats across the state. Chhattisgarh in 2019 was the only State to have Persons with Disabilities (PwD) as members in all panchayats.
