Raipur: The Chhattisgarh Chamber of Commerce and Industries has called on a formally written letter to Union Civil Aviation Minister Shri Ram Mohan Naidu to provide direct flight connectivity to Surat (Gujarat) from Raipur. This request has been informed by the increased need for better connectivity, particularly to Surat, where the traders and business communities in the state hope to benefit from facilities in textile and jewelry.
In their letter, the Chamber also pointed out that Raipur MH is home to Chhattisgarh’s biggest textile and jewelry market and the primary center for import and export, particularly with Surat. Surat, one of India’s biggest textile and diamond markets, is important for Raipur‘s traders. Many traders move daily between Raipur and Surat for business and commercial purposes, especially in the textile and jewelry businesses.
The Chamber also explained that including flight service between the two cities would bring additional benefits to the trade relation and the development of both regions. It would lead to the expansion of trading that would result in increased employment opportunities, as well as an increase in the government’s revenue. Timely air connection would help overcome the existing constraints, specifically the time and cost involved in long-distance transport through road or rail.
The demand for transport infrastructure to support their growing trading needs has been a long-standing demand shared by the Raipur-based business community with the government and other relevant authorities. The Chamber thought it possible that the establishment of a flight service would enhance economic relations between Chhattisgarh and Gujarat and also considerably enhance businesses in both areas. As a great commercial city, Surat has therefore ignited the Chamber of Commerce to appeal to the Aviation Ministry to consider the longing ofRaipur traders that has for long been unmet by denying them direct flight to Surat.
