There has been a dramatic fall in the temperatures in some areas of Chhattisgarh including the state capital Raipur as four divisions are hit by a severe cold wave. Tuesday saw the chill clinch its grip on the ground with the temperatures dropping very low below normal at several places. In Raipur the Mana Airport recorded the lowest temperature of 7.8 o C, which was the lowest in the season. The lowest temperature in the Raipur city was 12.2 o C.
The lowest minimum temperature was observed in Ambikapur at 5 o C which occurs to be the coolest point in Chhattisgarh. The Meteorological Department forecasts that there will be dense fog that will cover Raipur city on December 11. The weather office has forecasted that the day time temperature of Raipur might range between 30 o C and the night time temperature might go down to almost 12 o C creating a sharp difference between the day and night conditions.
The IMD has also put a cold wave warning on December 11 on various districts including Korea, Surajpur, Balrampur, Jashpur, Surguja, Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, Bilaspur, Mungeli, Kabirdham, Rajnandgaon, Durg, Raipur and Balod. One can expect severe winter weather in these areas, and the temperatures will most likely get even lower and the cold will be made more acute by the winds.
The temperature readings of the recent past indicate that they are generally decreasing over Chhattisgarh:
- Mana: 7.8°C
- Bilaspur: 9.8°C
- Pendraroad: 8.6°C
- Ambikapur: 5°C
- Jagdalpur: 9.1°C
- Durg: 9°C
- Rajnandgaon: 9.5°C
The temperatures were also low during daytime:
- Raipur: 29.1°C
- Mana: 28.5°C
- Bilaspur: 27.4°C
- Pendraroad: 25.6°C
- Ambikapur: 25.3°C
- Jagdalpur: 29.4°C
- Rajnandgaon: 28.5°C
The cold and fog conditions that seem to persist will affect the lives of everyday people and the residents have been advised to exercise caution when the winter gets worse across the entire state.v
