Raipur, Chhattisgarh: In Chhattisgarh, work has started on new technology to generate 7700 MW of electricity from water. The work of preparing the Detailed Project Report-DPR of the Pumped Storage Hydel Electric Plant has been given to Water and Power Consultancy Services- VAPCOS, a central government undertaking. Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company and VAPCOS have signed an agreement for this.
The agreement was signed by VAPCOS Senior Executive Director Amitabh Tripathi and Power Company Chief Engineer HN Kosaria in the presence of Chairman Ankit Anand and Managing Director NK Bijoura at the Power Company’s headquarters in Daganiya, Raipur. Ankit Anand said, that considering the need of electricity in the future, this technology will prove to be better. There is a lot of potential in Chhattisgarh in the field of green energy. VAPCOS will report on its possibilities.
Power Company Managing Director NK Bijoura said, five places in the state have been identified for the pumped storage hydropower project. In this, 1200-1200 MW projects are possible in Hasdeo Bango Korba and Sikaser Reservoir Gariaband. There is a possibility of generating 1400 MW of power at Dangri in Jashpur, 2100 MW at Rauni, and 1800 MW at Kotpalli in Balrampur.
VAPCOS will do the work of making its Feasibility Report and Detail Project Report (DPR). Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company has been made the nodal agency for the survey, research, site selection, identification, and development of the establishment of pumped storage hydropower projects.
State Hydroelectric Project (Pump Storage Based) Establishment Policy 2022 has been made in Chhattisgarh. This policy was approved in the cabinet meeting held on September 6 under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. It was said at that time, with the establishment of such a project, a large amount of electricity can be generated from the water of the reservoirs. Its cost will be cheaper than coal-based thermal power plants. At the same time, its use will also cause less damage to the environment.
