Raipur: Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said that his government is determined to provide 27 per cent reservation to other backward classes (OBCs). Speaking at an OBC Sammelan at Bastar divisional headquarters at Jagdalpur, the CM said he was aware of the problems of the community and all efforts are being taken to address those problems. CM Baghel attended the division level conference of Other Backward Classes organized at Lalbagh in Jagdalpur on Sunday.

Addressing the meeting, he said that the interests of the other backward classes (OBCs) will not be ignored. He also announced to provide Rs 50 lakhs each for the community building of OBCs in Jagdalpur and Kanker. Baghel said that being the CM, it is his responsibility to provide equal rights to all sections of society. He said that the Gram Sabha has to be empowered by connecting to all sections of society; there is a need of spreading awareness in the society to resolve the misconceptions about Panchayats Extension to the Scheduled Areas law.

CM Baghel said that Panchayats Extension to the Scheduled Areas Act is in force in Bastar and the process of making its rules is in progress. He said that only the members of the village would become members of this committee. He also appealed to people to regularly attend Gram Saba’s to empower them. For the participation of Other Backward Classes, information is being collected by Quantifiable Data Commission to calculate their number and everyone’s participation is necessary for this work.
