Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the Naxal-affected Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh on November 4, 2023, to take stock of the socio-economic development initiatives being taken there.
Dantewada is one of the most Naxal-affected districts in India. The Naxalites are a Maoist insurgent group that has been fighting against the Indian government for decades. Dantewada has been the site of many violent attacks by the Naxalites, including the recent attack on a police convoy that killed 10 personnel and one civilian.
Despite the challenges, the Indian government has been making efforts to improve the lives of the people of Dantewada. This is PM Modi’s second visit ahead of Assembly Elections 2023. Earlier on Thursday, PM Modi held a public meeting in Kanker. ours before the Prime Minister’s scheduled public meeting in Kanker, Naxalites have killed three villagers in Kanker district and one in Bijapur. On receiving information about the incident, police force reached the spot and a search operation is going on in the surrounding area to ensure security arrangements.
Apart from state police, paramilitary forces, Special Protection Group (SPG) personnel have been deployed for the security of the program. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sarma is also campaigning in Rajnandgaon and Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki districts of Chhattisgarh on Thursday. After being in power in Chhattisgarh for 15 years (2003-2018) under the leadership of Raman Singh, BJP had to face defeat from Congress in the 2018 assembly elections.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh visited the state to address public meeting.
At the same time, BJP has now used its full strength to regain power in Chhattisgarh. Voting for 90 assembly constituencies in Chhattisgarh will be held in two phases on November 7 and 17. Voting will be held in the first phase in seven districts of Naxal-affected Bastar division and 20 seats in Rajnandgaon, Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki, Kabirdham and Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai districts and in the second phase on the remaining 70 seats. Counting of votes will take place on December 3.
