Security forces scored another great success over the Maoist rebels on Wednesday after the elimination of the notorious Naxal leader, Madvi Hidma. In a well-planned operation the Andhra Pradesh police on the Bastar-Andhra Pradesh border conducted one of the biggest operations against Naxal ever recorded in recent history which saw a total of 50 cadres being arrested. The operation struck a massive blow against a Maoist network that had been holding on to the area of Bastar more than 40 years.
Some of the senior-level leaders of the organization were also among those who were arrested. Among those arrested there were three Sub-Zonal Committee Members (SZCM) of Lakhma, Madanna and Sodhi Manila, five Divisional Committee Members (DVCM), nineteen Area Committee Members (ACM) and twenty three regular Party Members (PM). These arrests are a serious interference to the Maoist order and their running capacities in the area.
This was done in the same time in five districts of Andhra Pradesh successfully destroying the Maoist net throughout the districts. Some of the arrested cadres were known to belong to the Bastar arm of Chhattisgarh. The following were the arrests per district: Bijapur- 28, Sukma 21 and Narayanpur 1.
In the process, law enforcement officers have confiscated a large weapon and cash deposit. Some of the items retrieved were an AK-47 rifle, two other rifles, a pistol, explosives, and cash valued at Rs 25 lakh. Seizing weapons and money and detaining senior commanders means that the Maoist group is presently experiencing one of its lowest positions in years.
The joint operation of Bastar-Andhra Pradesh was said to be the largest and decisive operation against the Maoists since then. The toppling of the leadership system, as well as taking over of weapons and resources, has disrupted many years of networks and operations of the group sending a keen message that the security agencies have gone extra miles to curb the Maoist influence in the area.
