RAIPUR: Businessman Suryakant Tiwari who has been named as the kingpin in the illegal coal scam surrendered before the special PMLA court on Saturday. The court has granted the central agency a 12-day custody for further investigation.
The ED since October 11th has been searching the premises of bureaucrats, businessmen, and middle men suspected of illegal transactions in the coal scam. Suryakant Tiwari since then is said to have been untraceable, the ED said.
Tiwari Saturday reached the court and surrendered before judge Ajay Singh Rajput. The ED counsels maintained that there was no provision for surrender in a money laundering case and sought 14-day custody but the court granted only 12 days. Along with Tiwari, IAS officer Bishnoi and two other businessmen have been named in the case.
