Raipur: The goal established by the Health Department is to eradicate tuberculosis (TB) from the state entirely by 2025, but worries have grown because of the disease’s sharp rise in cases. In the past 10 days, 1,520 new cases of tuberculosis have been reported. In four and a half months, 14,220 patients have been identified, based on data from the Health Department.
There were almost 38,000 cases of tuberculosis last year. In addition, over 532 MDR (multi-drug-resistant) instances have been found to date. This can have a 60 percent death rate. Experts in medicine claim that during the Corona era, the number of TB cases sharply increased. To understand its causes, research is required.
Mycobacterium tuberculosis is the bacterium that causes tuberculosis. This is a contagious sickness that can infect multiple people. It strikes those with weakened immune systems first. You cannot stop taking TB medication in the middle. Depending on the patient’s weight, several kinds of medications, ranging in duration from six months to two years, are administered.
A medication lapse can put the patient at risk of developing drug-resistant tuberculosis, which is quite serious. Medicine for tuberculosis must only be taken on an empty stomach. If there is a significant lapse in treatment between courses, patients are re-followed. Drugs not obtained from the Centre: Patients are compelled to return empty-handed from state government hospitals since TB medications are not available there. Since February, government hospitals have been experiencing a scarcity of TB medications.
The hospitals kept up their work for a while, but during the past month, all of the medication has gone out. It is almost out of medicine, even in Raipur, by one week. The TB Division of the Central Government, which is at a standstill, provides the medications prescribed to TB patients.
Officials from the health department report that multiple letters regarding TB medication have been sent to the TB division. Not just in Chhattisgarh, but throughout the nation, pharmaceuticals are not readily available. All of the state’s chief medical and health officers have been instructed to buy medications at the district level only after getting orders from that location.
