Raipur: Carcasses of 6 cows were found near the crematorium in village Kanhaira, adjacent to the capital’s industrial area Urla. On receiving the information, the police reached the spot and sent the carcasses of the cows for postmortem. It is suspected that the cows might have died after eating industrial waste dumped there. There is anger among the villagers, including animal lovers and cow-protectors over the suspicious death of the cows. At present, the police is busy investigating the matter. Further action will be taken only after the postmortem report comes.

On the other hand, Congress communication chief Sushil Anand Shukla has held the government responsible for this matter. He said that due to the negligence of the government, 50 cows have died in the capital. The goods from the government warehouse were thrown away, which the cows ate and died due to this. He further said that there are cow shelters in the village, but they have been closed. If the cow shelters were not closed, there would have been arrangements for fodder and water for the cows. The government is responsible for this death.

Reacting to the death of cows, state minister Ramvichar Netam said that the problem of fodder and water increases in summer, due to which the helpless cows keep wandering here and there. He has appealed to the people that those who have cows should keep them safe and take care of them. Minister Netam said that the state government has started Gau Sanctuary Yojana for the protection of nomadic cows, under which these helpless animals will be given shelter.
