BJP Slammed Ruling Party in Chhattisgarh As Bribe Sought from Martyr’s Widow

New Delhi: On Friday, at the Patewa Paddy Center in Rajnandgaon district in the state of Chhattisgarh, a bribe of Rs.2,500/- was reportedly demanded from the widow of martyred police constable Prakash Verma, who was killed in 2009, during a gun battle with the Naxalites.

Bharatiya Janata Party, the opposition of the ruling party Chhattisgarh, slammed the Congress government, saying that the demand for a bribe to procure paddy from a martyr’s wife raises huge questions on the credibility of the state government, and the entire system in the state as well.

“The government’s claim to do justice with the farmers have been proved completely untrue as the bribe demand was found true in an investigation done by the Tehsildar”, said the BJP Kisan Morcha State Chief Shyambihari Jaiswal. He further added, “It raises questions on the credibility of the state government and the entire system of paddy purchase”.

Jaiswal demanded an answer from the Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, doubting whether the state government is actually procuring paddy from the farmers or it’s just an arrangement to collect bribes from the poor farmers.
