Bilaspur: With the issue of caste certificate of BJP mayoral candidate L. Padmaja alias Pooja Vidhani looming large, her troubles in Bilaspur are mounting in the High Court. BSP Mayoral candidate Akash Maurya has filed a petition seeking urgent hearing on validity of her caste certificate. The application has been accepted by the High Court registry and case may be heard shortly.

The petition, filed through advocate Lavkush Sahu, was related to Akash Maurya, who approached the court because the Returning Officer (RO) did not furnish documents regarding Padmaja Vidhani’s caste certificate. The request for an urgent hearing is to gain access to these documents, so the case will be heard today.

Shortly after Pooja Vidhani was named the BJP candidate and filed her nomination, the controversy regarding her caste certificate started. The Congress objected to the fact that the Congress party said her caste certificate is issued in Andhra Pradesh and not in Chhattisgarh, which is why she cannot fulfill the criteria. The objection was brought before the Election Commission, but the commission dismissed the objection, and the member (Vidni) was able to contest the elections.

Meanwhile, Pooja Vidhani has said that the certificate issued in 1995 was valid after all legal procedures. However, other challenges to the law remain pending in court, so the feud is not expected to end after the elections. The outcome of this matter will influence how the Bilaspur mayoral race will go and affect the political environment.
