Raipur: At a Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting of the Chhattisgarh Congress, organised in the presence of AICC General Secretary and state in-charge Sachin Pilot, former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel lost his temper. Rise of indiscipline in the party organization was the major point of discussion in the meeting where Baghel openly confronted the leadership and the leadership of why they cannot take action against those who are flouting the party discipline.
Baghel was disappointed by the fact that people who speak against the party line in their speeches are not followed by any action. He referred to a particular case of one of the party office-bearers in Rajnandgaon who publicly opposed him and the party, but despite this, nothing was done. Rather, by visiting the home of the individual over tea, Baghel added, PCC President Deepak Baij was encouraging those with loose discipline.
The mood of the room got charged when Baghel openly blasted the President of the PCC and at the same time, the Leader of Opposition, Dr. Charan Das Mahant. He wondered why people who are supposed to be in a position of authority are afraid of pointing directly to the Chief Minister, who, according to him, was to blame for the failures of administration and corruption. “It is not that when I took over as PCC President in 2013, I did not consider targeting the Chief Minister, since that is where accountability has to be. In what way is no one doing it? What are we scared of?” Baghel asked.
Sachin Pilot backed up the grievances of Bhupesh Baghel and directed party leaders to act right now against indiscipline. He also ordered the establishment of a disciplinary committee. Members, however, told him that there is already such a committee consisting of Dhanendra Sahu as its chairman. However, as they also observed, no cases ever get brought to the committee by the PCC, which makes the committee ineffective.
This gathering accentuated the increasing intra-party discord and the extreme need to reform the organization and impose discipline in the state congress.
