The development of tensions between the political leaders has been around in Chhattisgarh after the party changed Ravi Bhagat as the president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in the state. Bhagat was ousted as directly related to his raising some questions on the corruption of funds in the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), expelled by former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.
Baghel says that Ravi Bhagat had been publicly challenging the supposed irregularities in the DMF and CSR distributions, and had accused a current minister, whom he described as spokesperson of the Adani communications department. Baghel alleged that the BJP, instead of dismissing such corruption charges on Bhagat, first sent him a notice and has now relieved him of his leadership position.
Baghel writes in one of his posts in X that Ravi Bhagat has had to pay a price. He has complained about corruption relating to DMF and CSR funds. “There were no responses, no probe was launched, and nothing was done. Instead, he was earlier shown a notice, and now, he has been stripped of the position of BJYM Chhattisgarh president.”
Baghel also blamed the BJP for compromising tribal leadership in the state. He contended that Bhagat was a young and influential tribal leader with the express purpose of sending a message that speaking out against what he called the Adani team would cost him personally. Claiming that the BJP is snatching the leadership of the tribals, he accused the BJP of having developed wrong concepts against the tribals and stealing their leadership, which was based on principles.
The move to remove Bhagat has elicited political controversy, with Congress terming it a violation of transparency and tribal rights, whereas the BJP has not had an official reaction to the allegations made by Baghel. The uproar has brought another dimension of pressure to the political environment of the state, prior to the impending electoral battles.
