DURG: Ban on booze in Chhattisgarh has been making headlines as elections are due in the state in November. At a meeting in Durg CM Bhupesh Baghel interacting with the general public said, “No such kind of law will be introduced that cannot be imposed practically.”
Citing the Bihar liquor model Baghel added that public awareness camps should be run to educate the public about liquor and its side effects.
In alignment with its 2018 poll manifesto, a delegation of Congress members visited Biharto to study the impact of the ban and the possibilities of imposing a ban in the state. The 7 member team had gone to study the ‘ifs and buts’ that the state govt would have to resolve if a complete ban on liquor.
An announcement regarding the prohibition of liquor was made by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel in the Assembly. Three committees comprising experts, social workers, and legislators were formed to study the prospect of prohibition in the state. The teams are touring the state that has imposed a ban on liquor including Bihar and Mizoram.
It remains to see if C’grah will be booze-free or not.
