Congress senior leader and former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel arrived in Delhi today after getting an invitation from MP Rahul Gandhi. Baghel flew to the capital on Tuesday morning and will soon meet Rahul Gandhi. He will also join a ceremony paying tribute to the death of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
Before his departure, Baghel spoke against the BJP and the central government for the Jhiram Valley incident and for agreeing on a ceasefire with Pakistan. Some BJP ministers, according to him, had gone out of control and were not fulfilling their duties.
Baghel noted that today marks the anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi’s death, when we should remember all his achievements for India. “Delhi will remember him with a special event.” He said he is scheduling a discussion with Rahul Gandhi about party affairs.
Baghel asked about the Centre’s handling of the ceasefire after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which killed 26. He said that despite the army having an advantage, Prime Minister Modi didn’t use them to track down the attackers. Why did the ceasefire come about when our troops were making progress? These are proper questions that require answers from the government, Baghel pointed out.
Baghel asked why the investigation of the Jhiram Valley massacre was delayed after the Supreme Court gave permission. He questioned why the state government had not permitted the SIT to resume its investigation. “The NIA court directed the government to take statements from Ganapathi, but this hasn’t been done. Why is that?” he wondered.
Congress is increasingly putting pressure on the BJP, and this is what Baghel’s statements highlight.
