Raipur: Ruling Congress leaders and party workers on Monday gheraoed the office of Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Raipur even as chief minister Bhupesh Baghel was arrested in Delhi during a similar protest against the Modi government for “misusing”central agencies to target opposition leaders and political adversaries despite imposition of prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC.

As Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was to appear before the ED in Delhi in response to a notice for a probe into the National Herald alleged money laundering case, Chhattisgarh CM Baghel his Rajasthan counterpart Ashok Gehlot joined hundreds of party leaders and workers in a march in the national capital to gherao the ED headquarters.

“The BJP government is trying to browbeat and suppress the voice of Congress by misusing central agencies. Congress party is not going to be suppressed,” Baghel told reporters in Delhi during the agitation. The ruling Congress organized a massive demonstration in front of the ED office at Pachpedi Naka, with state Congress president Mohan Markam leading the agitation.

Senior Congress leaders SatyaNarayan Sharma and Dhanendra Sahu and a number of legislators joined the sit-in opposite the ED office. They raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of “using central agencies as a tool for political victimization of opposition leaders”
