Raipur: The new academic year session has already started in the state, and with this, the New Education Policy 2020, which the Sai government declared, has also come into force. However, a significant concern remains: states have over 60,000 teaching positions in state schools unfilled. This revelation was made by the then Education minister of MP, Mr. Brijmohan Agrawal, in the main budget session of the assembly, where he said that 33000 teachers would be recruited through the assembly. Thus, Chhattisgarh Trained D. Ed and B.Ed Association members have been protesting at Tuta Maidan Raipur continuously.
On Monday, they conducted a one-day dharna and a token gherao of the assembly. The talks were administered by the association’s chief, who informed that there are plenty of 78,000 teaching positions that are without human capital in Chhatisgarh despite the assembly reporting only 57,000. Furthermore, one-third of schools have only one teacher, while the other third has no teachers at all, and there are over 6000 schools within the first category. These characteristics of the Indian education system make the implementation of a new education policy under these conditions equal to jeopardizing the future of the children of Chhattisgarh.
The association chief reiterated that greater attention should be placed on the future of the children of Chhattisgarh by the government instituting the process of hiring in these vacant posts as soon as possible. The demands put forward by the association are the immediate recruitment of 33 thousand teachers, the addition of more and more teacher/lecturer posts, recruitment of PE teachers and librarians, and the formation of posts for the Chhattisgarhi language under the new education policy. They also continue to call for a recruitment calendar with about 57,000 teaching vacancies and 5% relaxation for the reserved categories.
They were wearing black shirts and carrying placards. They gathered with the Chhattisgarh-trained D.Ed and B.Ed Association members at Tuta Maidan and marched to the assembly in Gherao. They anticipated that security forces would use barriers to hinder their movement of 200 meters.
