Raipur: In the ongoing campaign for the Chhattisgarh Assembly Election 2023, both BJP and Congress leaders continue to exchange accusations and counter-accusations. Anand Sharma, former Union Minister from Congress, addressed the media in Raipur, criticizing the previous BJP government and the central government.
Sharma highlighted the recent visits of Congress leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi to Chhattisgarh. He mentioned that Congress leaders have been counting the achievements of the Bhupesh government among the people of Chhattisgarh. Sharma took a dig at the previous BJP government, alleging that Raman Singh’s government did not work for women and tribals. He emphasized that the promises made regarding rice procurement and schemes for landless people were not fulfilled.
Anand Sharma sarcastically remarked on the BJP’s claim of bringing in development, stating that during their time, unemployment reached its peak. He reiterated Congress’s commitment to special categories and claimed that during the last five years, 40 lakh people in the state moved above the poverty line. He cited NITI Aayog’s figures to support his claim. Sharma also mentioned the promise of rice procurement at Rs 3,200 per quintal if Congress comes to power.
During the press conference, Sharma sidestepped questions about Nitish Kumar’s controversial statement, stating that he hadn’t heard what Kumar said. He focused on the Congress agenda for the elections and emphasized that unemployment is the country’s biggest problem, irrespective of whether it’s the Home Minister or the Prime Minister. He criticized the rising debt in the country, which has reportedly reached 60 lakh crore from 18 lakh crore in the last five years.
In summary, Anand Sharma, in his media address, defended Congress’s achievements in Chhattisgarh and criticized the BJP’s track record, presenting unemployment and rising debts as critical issues in the country.
