Allegations of assault on three doctors in the orthopedic department of the Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) have surfaced following a visit by a couple seeking treatment. Relatives claimed that the cause of the problem was the woman’s requirement for an X-ray of her finger with the doctor. The woman and the doctors got into a heated quarrel as one doctor accused the other of showing irresponsibility.

The situation escalated when the husband got involved in the altercation. Allegations suggest that the doctors became enraged and initiated physical violence against the couple.

Due to the emergency situation, the doctor and the couple were taken to the superintendent’s office, where he had been waiting for them. The gazetteer confirmed that the medical staff would make an apology for the assault, but the couple was still not satisfied with this outcome. No, just mere apologies. Would this move after the attack? Neither they said that these doctors should be given severe punishment.

The incident occurred when Neha Maravi, a resident of Kududand, complained of pain in her husband Vijay Maravi’s fingers for several days. The couple visited SIMS for treatment on Friday morning. After registration, they went to the orthopedic OPD, where Junior Doctors Dr. Tarun Kumar Thakur, Dr. Deepak Jangde, and Dr. Sagar Kumar were present. Neha showed her finger to the doctors, complaining of pain. The doctors attributed the pain to a nerve-related issue. In response, Neha requested an X-ray to clarify the situation, sparking a heated argument between her and the doctors.

The insistence that the authorities take some action represents the requirement for a detailed investigation of the situation at hand. Hence, such encounters not only adversely affect the patient-doctor’s trust but also the medical professional’s safety and security, which should be among the concerns.

It is imperative for authorities to address the grievances of both parties and ensure that appropriate measures are taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
