Raipur: In Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh, 500 contractual employees at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) have initiated a strike, alleging unjust termination by the institute’s administration. According to information, these employees, who have been working through outsourcing companies for the past 10 years, claim that they are being abruptly removed from their positions without valid reasons.
The employees engaged in outsourcing roles assert that AIIMS Raipur, under the Mission Recruitment initiative, has filled the same positions for which they were hired through outsourcing. The institute’s administration has issued office orders, terminating the services of outsourcing employees before appointing regular staff, overlooking their experience and contributions.
These workers express dissatisfaction and fear as they find themselves unemployed despite the promise of employment under the Mission Recruitment. They highlight a contradiction where, on one hand, discussions about providing employment are taking place, while on the other hand, AIIMS administration has been rendering outsourcing employees jobless for years. This situation has created a sense of dissatisfaction and anxiety among the affected employees, who are concerned about how they will support their families.
In an attempt to address the issue, these employees engaged in talks with the AIIMS director, but when no resolution seemed apparent, they resorted to a strike. The ongoing strike has resulted in the suspension of Outpatient Department (OPD) and Inpatient Department (IPD) services at AIIMS Raipur, causing significant difficulties for patients seeking medical care.
This development highlights the challenges faced by contractual employees in navigating the uncertainties of job security and fair treatment, especially when transitioning to regular positions within the institution. The impact of this strike extends beyond the employees, affecting the broader community reliant on the medical services provided by AIIMS Raipur.
