In a crackdown of a massive crackdown, authorities in Raipur have launched action against the fugitive Tomar brothers-Virendra Tomar and Rohit Tomar, by attaching their properties. The move is a follow-up of their anticipatory bail plea, which was dismissed by a sessions court on Wednesday, and they were granted permission to attach their property. On the order of the court, a team of district administration led by SDM Nand Kumar Chaubey, the tehsildar, and police officers executed the attachment proceeding immediately.
The list of the seized properties includes the Tomar brothers’ Sui Villa residence and contiguous property in Bhathagaon, Raipur. The land pieces that are attached have a total size of 3,000 square feet, that are then equally distributed between the two brothers, with each one receiving 1,500 square feet. Paperwork has also started on the annexation of a further three pieces of land by the two brothers in and around the capital city.
The Tomar brothers have about two months of escape. Due to their continuing to run away, SSP Dr. Lal Umed Singh had earlier promised to give them a cash reward of ₹5,000 each on their arrest. Officials also appealed to the court in order to seize property, which has now been legalised, that has led to the latest administrative measure.
Nonetheless, the step has not been left unopposed. The Tomar brothers’ counsel defending them has opposed this move, saying that the order was unfair. The defence has claimed they had filed an application on August 18 and had a hearing fixed on August 20. The challenge is that they were not given an opportunity to appear so that their side of the story is heard, yet an attachment order was issued prior to the hearing. The case will be heard the argument in court on Thursday.
This case highlights how law officers are coming down hard on regular offenders and the rising property seizure, apparently being used as an instrument of pressure to finesse evading accused parties to face justice.
