Raipur: The ACB-EOW carried out coordinated raids at 15 locations spread across Raipur, Sukma, Tongpal, Rampur-Para-Jagadalpur and Dantewada. The early morning raids are linked to Kawasi Lakhma, the former excise minister who is currently in Raipur Central Jail on charges of the liquor scam.
It is stated that the searches commenced early morning at about 6 AM across various properties associated with acquaintances and associates of the former minister. Senior officers from the ACB and EOW conducted coordinated raids in these five districts that comprise Bastar: Sukma, Tongpal, Jagdalpur and Dantewada, as well as other locations in Raipur.
Prem Meghlani, a business partner of Kawasi Lakhma, was among those raided. His house in the Dharampura Housing Board was searched. Separate teams raided the home of the Nahata family in the Santoshi Nagar area of Raipur. The ACB-EOW also raided the residences of Ashok Agarwal and Mukesh Agarwal, business partners who run Dhajaram Enterprises and operate as government suppliers for textiles from Ambikapur.
Earlier, Lakhma and his associates had already faced scrutiny in connection with this case. The ED conducted searches at the homes of Kawasi Lakhma and his son Harish in early December. Lakhma was apprehended on January 15 and has remained in jail since January 21.
The ED had previously filed a large complaint against Lakhma, alleging that he played a central role in the liquor scam and led the consortium responsible for it. The ACB-EOW raids are amplifying the inquiry into the alleged biggest liquor scam in the state.
