Raipur. Security forces have achieved a major success during the ongoing anti-Naxal operation in Abujhmad. Top leader of the Maoist organization and Naxalite Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraju, carrying a reward of Rs 1 crore, has been killed in the encounter. Basavaraju was a politburo member of the Central Committee of Naxalites and was considered to have played a major role in operating the Naxal network in the country.
Amidst the big news coming about the Naxal operation going on in Abujhmad, revealed Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai. He said that we have been appealing to the Naxalites to surrender from the very beginning. Now there is no need for any further appeal. Talking to media about Naxal operation, SM Sai said that Naxal operation has been going on for the last 3 days. We salute the courage of the soldiers. The adjusted figures (of Naxal deaths) will come after the operation is over. We salute the courage of the soldiers.
According to sources, Basavaraju was among the top strategists of the Naxal organization and was in command of Maoist activities. He was accused of conspiracy and responsibility for violent incidents in several states.
In a significant blow to Naxalite operations, a recent encounter reportedly resulted in the deaths of 26 Naxalites, though official confirmation regarding the identity of top leader Basavaraju awaits post-mortem and forensic analysis. Sources indicate that several high-ranking Polit Bureau and Central Committee members of the Maoist organization’s Company No. 07 were among those killed. This operation marks a substantial disruption to the Maoist hierarchy, with one soldier martyred during the exchange.
Operation Black Forest: A Precedent for Success
This success follows a monumental anti-Naxal operation, “Operation Black Forest,” conducted on the Karregutta hill along the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border from April 21 to May 11. This unprecedented offensive saw security forces neutralize 31 Naxalites, severely damaging their network. During the operation, 214 Maoist hideouts and bunkers were demolished, and 450 IEDs were recovered. Despite challenging conditions that left 18 Cobra and DRG soldiers injured, the mission was deemed a resounding success. This continuous pressure and the effectiveness of such operations are crucial to achieving Home Minister Amit Shah’s goal of a Naxal-free Chhattisgarh by 2026, evidenced by a growing number of Naxalite surrenders.
