An official reported today that at least four Maoists were killed in a clash with security forces in the Bastar area of Chhattisgarh.
The clash, which started on Saturday night at a forest in south Abujhmaad at the border of Narayanpur and Dantewada districts, claimed the life of Sannu Karam, a chief constable of the District Reserve Guard (DRG).
A joint team of security personnel was on an anti-Maoist operation when the clash started. Four Maoists’ bodies and automatic weapons, such as an AK-47 rifle and a self-loading rifle (SLR), were found at the scene after the gunfight ended late Saturday night.
Over 200 Maoists Killed In 2024
Union Home Minister Amit Shah promised to eradicate Maoists by March 2026 after security forces in Chhattisgarh killed more than 200 of them in 2024. Last year, 219 Maoists were killed, 217 of whom were from the Bastar region, which includes the districts of Bastar, Dantewada, Kanker, Bijapur, Narayanpur, Kondagaon, and Sukma. About 802 Maoists surrendered, and more than 800 were detained.
In 2024, there were about 18 security officers killed in the battle with the Maoists, while 65 civilians were killed in Maoist violence.
