A strong protest was shown by the 38 families residing in Vaishali Tower Ward No. 44 in Shankar Nagar, who decided to boycott municipal elections. The residents, though sitting very close to BJP mayoral candidate Pooja Vidhani’s residence, say that their long-standing issues still persist.

Security is the main thing for the residents to worry about. The alleged anti-social elements broke the boundary wall of the colony, which put the people’s lives in serious danger. No matter how many complaints are lodged with police, administration, or public representatives, there has been no concrete action. Although the land was demarcated six months back, the Tehsildar report is not yet in, said the locals. Residents have become frustrated and erected banners at colony entrances calling for a boycott of the elections.

One of these banners clearly states that you cannot enter if you are a political leader of any party. Residents have turned down colony gates, refusing election candidates to come in during campaigns. They say firmly that unless their security concerns are addressed, they will not participate in the voting process.

The residents say that R.J. Mishra, a retired Railway Protection Force (RPF) inspector from Bilaspur, demolished the boundary wall illegally. On August 14, 2023, and September 27, 2023, complaints were made regarding this issue. Moreover, a fresh demarcation was applied for by an application to the Naib Tehsildar, but the process is not yet complete.

Complaints have been raised with the officials and public representatives over the past 18 months, and yet not a single action has been taken. This has resulted in the residents deciding to boycott the next municipal elections and demand urgent resolution for their security worries.
