JANJGIR: Three died after allegedly consuming illicit liquor in CGs Janjgir-Champa district on Monday. The three deceased have been identified as friends, one out of them a recently married serviceman. They were declared dead on arrival at the hospital said, an official.
The incident took place in Rogda village under Nawagrah PS limits. Nandlal, an army jawan was on leave and got married last week, said officials based on a preliminary probe. He and his friends consumed alcohol sold illicitly in the village following which they fell unconscious.
A forensic team has been mobilized to collect samples of liquor and investigate the cause of the death. Meanwhile, the bodies have been sent for postmortem.
Janjgir Champa MLA Narayan Chandel visited Nawagarh Hospital and demanded a probe into the incident and compensation of Rs 50 lakh for the kin of the deceased. He further demanded a ban on the sale of liquor in the state, a promise made by the Baghel govt during the 2018 Assembly polls.
Notably, Baghel on Sunday said he didn’t have the courage to ban alcohol in the state when he witnessed deaths due to the consumption of spurious alcohol and other harmful substances after outlets were shutdown during the pandemic.
